PART 2 - DUMBO?

Assalamualaikum and hello fellow readers! First of all I'd like to say sorry for the late update, since I was caught up with test and job applications. well, its pretty annoying to think that the fact that I left PMR's maths for too long it made me kinda suck at doing them. haha set the thing aside, lets talk about PART 2! hehe. This is where most of the things get a bit technical, but I hope I can still make it as interesting as possible for you guys. First of, I'm going to show you something weird! and I mean it! here it is:

picture and fish owned by betta hero
I know its that weird, but at least close your mouth :P. very much similar like this huh?

hahaha. Its Dumbo alright. :) and thats where it got its name from. well, its hard to find this piece of beauty. Theres only a few breeders in Malaysia (at least from what I've known) that has this type of fish. Again, it started with mutation and carried on by breeders through selective breeding :)

Alright, lets go for the real PART 2! oh, btw, I had a double cheese burgers a few days back, so I no longer craved for MCDs anymore! (this notation will only last for another 2 days :P) lets go with our 1st type for today, DOUBLE TAIL BETTA:

well, this is what we called double tail betta! :) the reason of why its called that name is because instead of having a single tail, the caudal develop into 2 lobes that made it look very much like two tails instead of one. cool isn't? well, this one is called DTHM (remember the acronyms I told you before ;) ). This also means that it can also come in short-finned version, or rather DTPK, which will most probably look like this! ABRACADABRA!

Magnificient isn't? okay, the common trait that you would see that characterizes a DT is aside for the two-lobed caudal, is its body shape and its dorsal fin. a DT would have a much more muscular body compared to normal bettas, and has a very distinctive long ray counts. Easier said, it possess a long dorsal fin :) Next:

DELTA TAIL BETTA
Well, we could say that this is the reduced form of HM. HM would have a 180° caudal spread but this type is much much lesser. This type of tail would be similar to guppy's :) which explains where the term DELTA came from! (I told you its going to get technical =.=") NEXT:

SUPER DELTA TAIL BETTA
well, this type is the one you guys might confuse as HMs. The only difference is the fact that a SD betta fully flared would not have 180° spread, but rather almost reaching that level. I believe most of them could reach HM when they get older or through training (You see, even to fish, hardwork pays! :) ). LAST BUT NOT LEAST! (Drum rolls)

CROWN TAIL PLAKAT BETTA
yeah! I've shown you a normal crown tail betta type before, but this is a cuter version! (I know the name I gave is not appropriate for this piece, so what? :P) haha. This is the short-finned version of a crown tail. It existed through selective breeding as well, but its very hard to achieve. Its starts from breeding a normal crown tail with a plakat, and then the list continues on and on until u get like the piece above! nice right? This is one of my dream betta tail type. Sure hope I can have it one day. :)

well, I guess thats about it for PART 2. From my point of  view, what I could say is that, betta fish is very unique, the genetic wonders knows no ending! who knows what type we could achieve in the future. hehe. That...is up on YOU, ME and other BREEDER's hand! :) For the next issue, which is ISSUE 3, we'll go about a bit of tips and infos on betta keeping! thanks for reading! See ya!

P/S: I beg you...please...SMILE and NEVER GIVE UP! :)

2nd Issue: Betta Tail Types (Part 1)

Assalamualaikum and hello readers (I sure hope I already have more than 1 reader :P). Like I promised, in this issue I'll be talking about basic tail types that betta fish had (excluding the two tail types in issue 1)! Hurrah! :D Anyways, before going to the main story in this issue, I'll explain a bit more (surely in easy way to understand ;) ) on how  this

B. imbellis (original wild type)
Became THIS:

Hehe. It sure gave you quite a shock ya? well, all I can say is that this is all the result of selective breeding done by betta breeders and ethusiast that took years to actually achieve what we have today :) Its all about playing with the genetics guys.

Okay, lets go to the main topic for today! which is getting extra mcd double cheese burger with a purchase of one! oopps! sorry, thats not it (aaarghh! I am missing McD's burger too much =.="). Its going to be about the basic tail types :) first,

HALFMOON BETTA

Gorgeous right? well, this is what we call a Halfmoon. why? lets look closer at the shape of the back tail, or should I say the caudal. If you look closely it resembles this

Well basicly, that why its called Halfmoon. It had a tail spread of 180°! Thats the keyword, hehe :D  NEXT,

HALFMOON PLAKAT BETTA

As you are informed before, plakat signifies betta that is short-finned and Halfmoon meaning reaching 180°. Combining both means = a betta that can spread its caudal 180° and is short-finned! :) This piece is MAGNIFICENT! Last but not least,

CROWNTAIL BETTA

TADAAA! You'll surely be amazed by this piece! erm, am I right, or am I right? :P hehe. Now, one distinctive characteristics that a Crowntail had, is that is fins is jagged and had webbings :) (like a toad feet) The reason why its called Crown tail is due to the fact that it is very majestic in looks as well as the caudal resemble a CROWN that a King wears (man, this fish must be the king of fighting fish!).

Thats the three types I covered for this issue, and FYI, there are acronyms for these types that is commonly used by betta enthusiast which is HALFMOON = HM, HALFMOON PLAKAT = HMPK, CROWNTAIL= CT and in malay, people would usually call HMs as BULAN, CTs as Matahari.  ;) Alright, thats it for todays issue, stay tuned for more :) (PART 2) and.. Oh ya, SMILE AND NEVER GIVE UP! :)

What is a Betta fish?

Betta fish
Assalamualaikum and hello readers! Alright, this is a REAL REAL REAL betta fish/fighting fish. haha. nope. I guess the guy find it very hard to keep real betta that made him to tatoo it instead. well, no more time wasted on water change and feeding anymore. LOL hehe. This is the REALLY REAL one.

a Veil tail betta
SO, this is the real one. in fact this is one you see in almost every local fish shop (LFS) in Malaysia. Anyways, according to the places the malay names for the fish varied. its called IKAN LAGA, SEKILA, SEMPILAI or pretty much any weird name you can come up with(hehe, just kidding).

Its natural habitat is usually in ponds or stagnant water bodies. but not the one above though. Its a mutated fish from the original ones that made it become more commercial in the sense of ornamental fish market value.

well, in LFS, most of the time you'll only see two types of tail for betta fish. its called veil tail and plakats. the picture above is the veil tail type, where as you can see, the shape of the tail is long and slender, resembling a veil. so, thats where the name come from :) this is a PLAKAT betta;

aha! this is the one! hehe. this is called plakat, which means a short-finned betta. this type is the closest type to original wild betta :) I'll explain later in the next issue. hehe

Oh, another thing! betta fish has a unique breathing system which is the labyrinth system. In easier way to explain, it breathes oxygen just the same way humans do. hehe. Means that it doesn't really need aeration at all!

With that said, this is the end of the 1st issue. thanks for reading, and I'll share more infos with u guys on the next issue. A hint that I can give you guys is its going to be about tail types. hehe. Thanks!

P/S: Smile and never give up! here's a picture of one type of wild betta for you guys. :) enjoy!

Cool a'ight?
